Marsha Hammel's time spent in New Orleans, Miami, and Quebec enriched her with vibrant cultures that kindled her passion for the predominant themes in her art: music and the human form. "Jazz Ensemble, " a testament to her draughtsmanship skills honed through early training, masterfully wields the power of lines. Moreover, the artwork resonates with the artist's keen sense of colour. In the 1980s, Marsha Hammel made a deliberate choice to restrict her palette to earth pigments—black, white, ultramarine, alizarin crimson, and cadmium yellow medium. Although colour has gradually re-emerged in her work, "Jazz Ensemble" vividly illustrates how this simple palette remains the cornerstone of her artistry today
